The filter plates used in the modules consist of cellulose, inorganic filter aids and thermosetting resin for wet strength. The retention mechanisms of a filter plate are both mechanical and electrokinetic. Electrokinetic potential, also known as zeta potential, enables negatively-charged particles or microorganisms to be retained by adsorption, even if their size is smaller than that of the filter media’s pores. Together, these retention mechanisms provide a very high retention capacity of up to 4 l/m².
The different grades of filter plates in the PURAFIX range cover retention thresholds from roughing to sterilizing filtration. Modules are also available with our CARBOFIL filter plates, which contain activated carbon.
The base materials used are FDA-approved.
